They say that time flies when you’re having fun. As silly as the cliché seems, apparently it’s true as it seems like only yesterday we opened our bay door for the first time back in 1984.
So in the spirit of having fun, we’ve decided to see just what was going on in 1984.
In the world of sports, the LA Raiders beat the Washington Redskins 38-9. The Redskins came in as defending champs and the Super Bowl ended up being a thriller with the underdogs taking home the trophy.
The Detroit Tigers dominated the San Diego Padres that year in the World Series, beating them in 5 games. While not as thrilling overall as the Super Bowl, it did feature greats such as Tony Gyynn, Goose Gossage and Jack Morris.
They don’t make music like they used to, and that couldn’t be truer when looking at the billboard charts from 1984. Hits include When Doves Cry by Prince, What’s Love Got to Do With It by Tina Turner and Jump from Van Halen.
1984 stands to be one of the best years for movies ever, with titles like Ghostbusters, The Terminator, A Nightmare on Elm Street, Gremlins, The Karate Kid, Indiana Jones: Temple of Doom, Police Academy, Revenge of the Nerds and so many more.
Other Pop Culture Facts of Note:
The Chevy Cavalier, Ford Escort and Ford LTD were the top selling cars in 1984. Meanwhile, the Dodge Daytona Turbo was arguably the best car on the road. It’s showroom price: $10,447
In all, you can say that 1984 was a pretty exciting year. 35 years later, we’re still having fun, working hard at our craft and helping our customers love their car again.
