Tire rotation – A Simple but Important Step in Good Car Care

They also handle most of the pressure when you brake. As your car slows down, the weight of the car shifts to the front of the vehicle, and therefore your front tires. Front tires put in much more work when you turn as well. When you make a right hand turn for instance, the weight of the car rolls to the left and the weight shifts to the outside edge of your front tires.

Poor alignment is another factor in tire wear. If one or more of your wheels are out of alignment you could drastically shorten the life of a tire. This is because a tire may ride almost exclusively on an edge. In only a few short months, your tire will show signs of bad wear. What’s worse, you may not be able to rotate a tire that’s too far worn on a specific spot. You may be stuck keeping the tires where they are, or replacing the tires altogether.

The rear tires are mainly just along for the ride. They don’t do much during stops or turns, so their edges don’t get the same kind of beating.
