Times are uncertain lately and many are faced with decreased work, social gatherings and good old-fashioned freedom to do what we want. While we are all doing our part to self quarantine and help prevent the further spread of Covid-19, it’s still important to care for our cars even though they are not being used as much.
We’ve decided to put together a few DIY tips you can take to ensure that your car is at the ready when we finally get through this difficult time.
Simply put, do not neglect your car when keeping things neat and clean. Door handles, shift knobs, blinkers/wiper controls, console dials and of course steering wheels are all things that get touched and are covered in germs. Now is a great time to give your interior a proper DIY wipe down. On warmer days, lower your windows and let fresh air flow through your car as well.
And, don’t forget about that half eaten burrito you were eating the last time you were driving your car. No one wants to find a science experiment in their car after a week of non-use!
While most people are running their car often enough by virtue of going to the grocery store, if your car does happen to sit around for over a week without being started, consider staring it and running it for a 10-15 minutes. This DIY task will help keep your fluids moving and keep sediments from taking hold during long periods of being still. It will also give your battery a quick charge and simply acts as a good test that the car is good to go for when you are ready to use it again.
Checking your tires is sound advise at any given time but just as important now. Slow leaks can creep up on you and you don’t want to be caught off guard by a flat tire once you are ready to get on the road again.
While the daily concern over Covid-19 continues, it’s easy to forget that spring is quickly taking hold. There have already been a couple days where many would have considered putting on the A/C already. We don’t know how long the restrictions on travel, shipping and gatherings will go on but you don’t want to be caught off guard with a failed A/C.
